It was my birthday yesterday and I was pooped. It was an awesome weekend and I slept waaaay too late and now that I'm back at work I'm paying for it...still recovering. One of my gifts was a wireless keyboard from Apple. What can I say? it's awesome!!! It's a sweet piece of technology...operates SOOO smoothly and super light...check it out!

..i also got the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens and i'm LOVING it! best gifts ever. Thank you to EVERYONE who pitched in. <3
It was a very special birthday and I felt so much love by your presence.

One of my FAVORITE architects at the moment is OSKA Architects. And one of my FAVORITE projects is "the brain". It's a simple structure where the main focus is the facade. The exterior is pure concrete and glass, very minimal and stripped of all decorative features... The facade MAKES this building. Looks 2D because doesn't it?

I'm a suck for bookshelves...

...a simple slit in the wall to let in natural light, also creates a dramatic effect.

LOVE the reflective pool that's installed just outside this window....how beautiful is that?

Just came out of a meeting with Shai Gil. He's a photographer based in Toronto working within a small niche as an architectural photographer. Amazing stuff! He's done a lot of work for Teeple Architects and 80% of his work are published. I'm excited to see how he'll photograph our projects! Photographing at sunrise and sunset with all interior and exterior lights turned on gives such an awesome dramatic effect.

Spent pretty much the whole day fixing a mock up model. It feels like I've been working on this model for months...oh wait! I have! :(
My boss says that this will be the last time I'll be fixing this model before I make the real one...*phew* Its frustrating sometimes when clients expect a miracle out of ya...like trying to fit 6 bedrooms into a space that can only fit 5.

How awesome is the house below? Cedar siding with stone veneer on the exterior with plenty of windows to let in natural light. I love it! so sleek and smooth. Under construction at the moment. They are almost done with plumbing and electrical rough-ins. I can't wait until they start drywalling!

I'm sick! AGAIN! I don't know what it is!!! I've been sick more often this year than any other year. Perhaps it is because I don't exercise and don't eat healthy...hmmm....Well I've just joined a gym so that's taken care of but eating healthy is SOOOO hard when you don't have your mother stuffing vegetables down your throat. Sigh, how blissful was that? I miss my mum... :(

Coffee...makes me happy :)
saw this picture and thought "my...how clever" so i had to post it

I love organizing. Our office is a little bit of a mess because I've been making alot of models and such and ordering literature from suppliers with nowhere to put it! So we're planning to take a quick trip to Ikea to pick up some things to make our office more organized. The only thing is I hope we actually go this time...we've threatened to go but we never do because there's work to be done. I wish I had a car so that I can go myself instead of having to rely on my coworkers...boooo!

IKEA SHOPPING LIST:
KASSETT = $4.99 CDN

ok....so that's it for now LOL!

..but aside from that I want to introduce to you my new best friend....it's called Agenda 2008 Moleskin.

ok so they are a little pricey but I say why not spend $20 on an agenda if it's something you're gonna use for a year? Think about it...on its face you will jot down the goings on of your life!!!! It's practically a history book! I'd say that's pretty important.

I spent the better part of my day at work uploading pictures onto my facebook. SHhhh! don't tell my boss. I'm really so lucky to work here. I love my job. Great environment. Great boss who is so generous and understanding. It took some adjusting and tears in the beginning but i've found my place here.

I'm finally in a position where I can personally contact clients about their interiors. I can now email them my design ideas and keep in contact. One client wants me to come to their home now for a design consultation to discuss what sort of aesthetics they would like. Their house is going to be gorgeous! It's a 3 story building in Cabbage Town. The client is a videographer so it's nice to work with a fellow artist, they have fine modern taste.

I love fireplaces! They can be sooooo expensive though. For a large open space I've found it's a good feature to divide rooms without destroying an open concept.

Images I Love...

Some companies I like...

So i'm back from a very long blogging break. I've been meaning to post things but blogging is so easy to put off! I've been doing  a lot of research on design firms and architects because I will soon be diving head first into a 9,000 + sq ft custom home. It's a little intimidating because I haven't really done that much designing yet. However, my boss has been giving me more responsibilities including designing. I just proposed a design for their fireplace for their home and they really liked it! I'm stoked! The more I learn about the profession the more I'm loving it. I'm also finding out more about what kind of designer I am in terms of style. I hope to use this blog to give an honest account of what it's like to be a young interior designer working in a small architect firm.
