HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!!!!
...may this year be full of blessings and growth!

I am a HUGE Miyazaki fan. I think he's a genius and i'm so jealous cause I want to be one too!!!
My favorite is Spirited Away but an old time fave is My Neighbor Totoro. And for the year 2009 I will be using a TOTORO PLANNER!!!! I know, maybe it's a little childish but why kill the child in us? We all have our inner child...please don't kill it.

...time to eat some ramyun :)
looks appetizing doesn't it?
that's me, playing with my camera whilst cooking.

...Went to help my sister in law pic her wedding dress and I saw THIS as I was flipping through one of the magazines!!!

...it's not impossible :) I have my scuba diving license so that's a start!!! Who wants to do this shoot with me!??!? I grew up wanting to be little mermaid and that's what these women in wedding dresses look like. Such an AWESOME shoot!!!

aA Cafe Design Museum

I went to aA Cafe and I felt right at home. This cafe was put together (forgive me if my facts are wrong) by a man, who after acquiring lots of money working at some restaurant, got this location and started a cafe. All the furniture and little lamps and unique looking shelves were collected from all over the world. For example, a mail organizing desk used in post offices in France from 1850, a fence from a Cadbury factory in England from 1933, their front door is a French door from 1850...and the list goes on...what a COOL job! so the last image i posted is an image of the basement floor where he will be setting up the space as a real museum. I wanted to meet the owner but my Korean is lacking and I didn't want to seem like a fumbling fool...

Korea has some really cool places...but you gotta go with someone that knows all the best places that aren't listed in tour guides....

I'm staying with my parents and they live outside of Seoul so it looks more like the country side. There are fields surrounding our apartment and it's much quieter. There's rice fields and stray dogs running around. There are Wednesday markets and Friday markets that appear and sell fresh vegetables and fruits. The man above got mad at me cause I took a photo of him kekeke oh well! LOL!

Here in Korea it's the morning of dec 17th but in toronto it's still the 16th. But since I was born in Korea it is my brithday!!! Happy birthday to ME! I'm 25 in toronto but i'm 26 in korea.. so confusing!

I love this photo of me and my brother when we were young. It's pure vintage and my brothers outfit is to die for! And that hunched shoulder just makes him look even cuter!

It's funny cause I used to HATE when my parents made me stand somewhere while they took several steps back to take a shot of me...but I have a feeling I'll be a lot worse with my kids. The background in this picture is so random, why did they pic this spot to take a pic? and the way they composed the photo... I LOVE IT!

When I get inquiries about wedding photography I get so excited! *sigh* love....
I watched this video off of nickonkens blog and had to add it to mine. My favorite scene is when they're an old couple looking at a picture of themselves when they were young. Not just any picture but a picture that captured the love they felt for each other. How precious that photo must be to them! It's priceless!

ok I really should finish packing. I'm off to Korea tomorrow morning!!! My brother's getting married and I'm excited to see the family :)

It's the last day of november.
That means it'll be december tomorrow...wow

The images above are from today. I thought their reactions were pretty funny. LOL! Everyone has different reactions towards having a big ass lens shoved in front of their faces, what's yours?

I finally got a day to relax. My weeks have been jam packed with events because of my OTHER side business doing Arbonne but I must say they have been filled with blessings. I'm loving the activity in my life and i'm seeing growth. No one said life is easy and I'm really experiencing how much hard work is involved when we want to see our dreams come into fruition. Each challenge I'm faced with I turn to the only one who can give me peace and rest and the only one who never fails me. Thanks God.

This shot is from today, I was testing out my friend Rudys 5D and i love it :) full frame rocks!
My cousins are quirky but such good girls...thanks for living with me!

i was going to blog but i'm too sleepy...so i shall leave it here and bid you good night.

oh! which reminds me, today is a special day because it is my friend sarah yoo han's birthday! She recently got married and today her wonderful husband took her to watch Sound of Music. I wonder how it was, can't compare to the original because it's such a classic. Anyways, I just remembered that when i wrote "...bid you good night" (don't ask me why, i must be really tired). Happy birthday sarah!! saranghae

AGO

I went to the AGO this past saturday and I had a blast! There was a huge line up because admission was free! Even in the cold cold weather people stood in line in the snow/slush/rain to experience amazing new structure! I have to be honest...I LOVE the new building. Designed by Frank Ghery (canadian architect), suprisingly not wraped in metal...the glass facade supported by wood frames is lovely. The building has so much grace because inside it's just WOOD! solid wood everywhere...solid curved wood...i think it was maple, but i could be wrong.
Anyways, it was a special day :)
I went to the AGO years ago when i was in highschool and there was one painting that I LOVED. I totally forgot about it until I was there last night and I went on a hunt looking for it. When I saw it I had a mixture of emotions because the last time i had seen it I was a young high school student, but now i've grown up and the girl in the painting looks the same age as I do :)
which reminds me, I'm going to look for the postcard that i bought with that painting on it...

pic note: the photo above was pasted together from several photographs, it's hard to do when there's people walking all over the place.

So yesterday I had a meeting with my friend Jenn that's getting married next year. I showed her my package because she was still looking for a photographer and later that night I got a call from her saying that she would like to have me as their photographer. I was sooo extremely happy! It was my first time presenting my package and I was nervous, even more so cause she is a friend. But she's an amazing woman and I'm glad I experienced this with her! I am so happy for Jenn and Kevin. I will be continuously building my equipment from here on and I'm soooo excited, especially about upgrading my body :p
Still debating....canon 5d mkII or nikon d700???

why are weekends so short?

growl

well this weekend was a good weekend because I got to go to my friend Claudia's place to talk about photography... wedding photography to be precise. I love going there because her dogs are SOOOOOOOOOOO cute! I never knew dogs with more personality than hers but then again, i'm not well acquainted with that many dogs.

After some serious talk we did a quick shoot. The photo above was shot with a 2omm lens and let me tell you, the camera was really close to my face. I could smell Claudia's onion breath. It was kinda uncomfortable being on the other side of the camera, I'm usually the one taking the pictures and when that scenario is flipped I suddenly don't know what to do with my hands. However, when I got back home and I was flipping through the images I felt tremendous joy at having them. I had a kind of epiphany. I know photos are important because it seals a memory permanently into a file (can't say 4x6 anymore in this digital world) and it remains even after we've grown old and fat! lol! But to be reminded of how it feels to receive photos was GOOD! If that simple shoot was that special to me then weddings are that much more important. That one ceremony held on one day where all your family members and friends come to celebrate, to send you off on your new journey. I would want to remember that day. I would want to remember the faces of those who came and the colours of the flowers in my hands. So, I truely believe that the wedding photographer is the best investment when it comes to wedding planning.

It's been a crazy week.

I don't remember being so busy yet so excited and eager to learn more and grow as much as I am right now~

How crazy is this weather???
Here are some shots of yesterday morning...usually
my view is not that exciting but this particular morning I felt like I lived up in the mountains where the clouds roll down mountains.

Here are a couple shots...is this toronto?!?

Yesterday I went to go shoot for fun at st Lawrence market with a friend. It was a saturday morning and the hustle and bustle of the place was so contagious. There were families there doing their shopping and grabbing their brunch. The long line at the diner inside made me curious to try it out. There were fresh fruits, meat, fish, candy, bread and other random appliances and nick nacks. I was there to shoot but i'll admit it was an excuse to go and eat some yummy food :p

I keep hearing "keep shooting, keep shooting" and I'm putting it into practice. Its so true that practice makes perfect.  The same wisdom when realized once is so often re-realized with new experiences and takes on greater meaning and depth.

Looking forward to shoot more...

on a side note: what is it with musicians and performing next to garbage bins? Is that were the traffic is?

a bench has replaced my desk

I rearranged my place yesterday.
Moved my "office" to the living room.
Now my bedroom is just a bedroom.
I heard that one sleeps better when there are less things going on in your room.
My new office is pretty cool and I like my new setup.
I've discovered that I hate clutter.
Sometimes when i see "organized" clutter in design magazines it looks pretty cool and it makes me feel like I would like to live like that. However, in reality I really dislike it. This doesn't mean i'm a tidy person :p
I rarely clean often but when I do it's a complete reorganization of my belongings and rethinking of the necessity of my "cherished" possessions.

When was the last time you reorganized your room?

without inspiration it's difficult to be motivated to even pick up your camera and shoot. but once inspired there's sometimes a sense of panic like it might run out so shoot while you can. I feel inspired, i've been refueled...

It is so hard to keep a blog up to date!
I have a feeling it is something that I will always struggle with.

So, what's new?

I have got a new job.
I no longer work for a small architectural firm.
I now work for a development firm that builds high end condos.

not exactly a glamorous direction but I will be learning a lot and rubbing shoulders with some big time design firms and architects.

Also, the two projects I designed are completo! The church sanctuary and the restaurant.
Hopefully I can get some nice pictures to post up. I had dinner at the restaurant and the experience was unreal!!

peace

The restaurant I designed in downtown toronto is under construction.
Should be done in a couple more weeks.
wohoo! so excited...but a little scared too. It's my first restaurant so we shall see how it turns out.
I specified walnut for the majority of the millwork. I LOOOOVE walnut it's such a beautiful wood. It has a distinct grain but isn't overpowering. Also, walnut doesn't have the overpowering red pigment that for example cedar has.

Just wanted to say how much I LOVE Studio Mumbai Architects.
When I was reviewing their project photographs it felt like...like the feeling one gets from putting the right jigsaw piece into a jigsaw puzzle. Their style is something that I understand and when I say 'understand' it's like a feeling in my gut. Their design is very simple, true to its surroundings and incredibly poetic. Also, one of their projects Leiti 360 Resort hit a chord in my heart. The site is very similar to a place I grew up in Pakistan on the foothills of the Himalayan mountains 7,000 feet above sea level. If you have time read up on the history and philosophy of their practice. I'm in love.

So it's been ages and ages since my last post.

I guess because I was so back logged I lost the motivation to start.
But today I went home early because i wasn't feeling well and I'm sitting here at night working on a project because I have a friggin deadline on wed! It's our biggest project. Yea, perfect timing to be sick.

I guess I'll start by posting a shoot I did for a friend of a friend. The friend is Adrianna and her friends (my subjects) are Cait + Tom. It was a lot of fun meeting them for the first time. Tom left for England the day after the shoot so I really wanted to give them some photos they can cry over as they'll be in a long distance relationship for a while. To prep for the shoot Adrianna used her skills as a makeup artist to produce even awesomer pictures.

I've had an awesome past week and so much as happened. I feel so behind in my blogging that it's preventing me from posting.

This past saturday I went to a one day intensive...you can read about it on her blog
The morning comprised of the teaching portion where she went though the basics of photography and used her awesome Samsung flat screen  as her powerpoint screen. As she taught her choco lab Haelee was busy licking everyone moisturizing their arms with slob.
The afternoon was the shooting portion of the day. We shot an amazing couple who were great sports in the windy weather did well under the demands of the 10 photographers there.

here are some shots...
